Available from 31st May to 28th June and from 22nd to 31st August 2024 (with daily arrival) Great theatre – a 3-day tour to Fulda, Meiningen & Bad Kissingen
Day 1: Get a taste of the theatre in Meiningen
Meiningen in Thuringia is famous for its theatre, which attracted over two million spectators between 1874 and 1890. Here you can visit the Theatre Museum and explore the fascinating history of the court theatre. You will then continue through the Rhön Biosphere Reserve with its volcanic landscape. A stop at the Wasserkuppe is a must. The 950-metre-tall peak is known as the birthplace of gliding. Alternatively, you can head to the Franciscan monastery at Kreuzberg, where Franciscan monks have been serving pilgrims and hikers hearty meals and their famous Kreuzberg beer since 1731.
Day 2: Lose yourself in a world of musicals in Fulda
Travel back in time to the Middle Ages and explore the famous St. Salvator Cathedral during a tour through Fulda’s baroque quarter. Then let yourself be whisked away into the world of musicals in the evening. During the summer months, the baroque cathedral city is transformed into a pilgrimage site for fans of musicals from all over Germany. Fulda’s cultural events calendar is enriched with eight musical world premieres and countless other cultural highlights, including the Food & Drink Festival and concerts on the square in front of the Cathedral.
Day 3: An impressive finale in the spa town of Bad Kissingen
Discover historic buildings, the Wandelhalle and beautiful parks in Bad Kissingen. You can even taste Bad Kissingen’s healing waters at a healing water tasting. Enjoy concerts by the Staatsbad Philharmonie Kissingen throughout the year, and look forward to the Kissinger Sommer programme of events in the warmer months. Take a boat trip along the River Saale before you head home.
Available from April to October (with daily arrival) Following in the footsteps of the “Spätlesereiter” – a wonderful wine tour from Rheingau to Fulda
Day 1: From Johannisberg Castle in Rheingau to Fulda
The history of the “Spätlese” (late harvest) wine is closely linked to Fulda. In the 18th century, the cellar master of Johannisberg Castle in Rheingau required a special permit from the Prince-Bishop of Fulda. Begin your journey tracing the footsteps of the Spätlesereiter or “Late Vintage” horseman with a glass of Schloss Johannisberger Riesling and a tour around the magnificent castle. Then travel to Fulda and check in to your hotel room. If you’re out and about between 7th and 11th August 2024, make sure you pay a visit to Fulda Food & Drink Festival on the Pauluspromenade. It is the perfect place to sample some delicious food and exquisite wines. The Fulda Wine Festival promises further moments of enjoyment and runs from 28th August to 7th September 2024.
Day 2: Experience Fulda’s wine tradition
Fulda’s wine tradition dates back to the 12th century. Nowadays there is only one vineyard left in the town – on the sunny southern slope of the Franciscan Frauenberg monastery. Take part in a guided tour of the vineyard in the morning. A tour through the old town and the baroque quarter, accompanied by a rolling wine barrel, focuses on Fulda’s wine traditions. Sample four specially selected white wines and take a selfie with the Spätlesereiter monument in the Residence courtyard. Choose from a range of wine bars and restaurants for dinner.
Day 3: Head to the oldest winegrowing town in Franconia or visit the Rhön apple winery
Stop by in Hammelburg, the oldest winegrowing town in Franconia, or visit “Krenzers Rhön”, the Rhön apple winery in Ehrenberg-Seiferts to the east of Fulda. There you can take a look behind the scenes at how they produce the Apfelwein (similar to cider) and apple sherry.
